I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but if you don’t know what RSS is and/or don’t know how to use it, then you absolutely, positively need to. RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication,” and it is just a way you can have website updates come to you in one, handy place, instead of you going to each different one to see what (if anything) is new. I would HIGHLY advise watching this simple, yet informative video on what RSS is and how to get started using it:
RSS in Plain English (video)
Not only is this video creative, but it explains in very clear and concise language how to use RSS and how it can help you.
I use Google Reader, and NOW, hallelujah, it has an search feature (read more about this at lifehacker.com, one of the feeds I subscribe to.) Every day, I visit my reader and scan through the new stuff on the sites I subscribe to. Of course, I don’t (or couldn’t!) read everything, but I can quickly decide what is worth my attention and time and look it over. Using RSS feeds and going through your important stuff this way is a time saver and another way to ORGANIZE YOUR LIFE.
By the way, this blog (I’m using a free service from wordpress.com) offers a button at the top to subscribe to this blog. All you need to do is click one of the choices below, the link will take you to a feed page which will offer you different options on your feed reader service. Select your service and then subscribe. It’s easy, convenient, and you’ll have all of your favorite reads in one place.
So, view the video, sign up for a feed reader, such as Google Reader, start subscribing to websites that interest you, and then visit your feed reader to get updated on new and interesting stuff. And in the meantime, start your own blog and think about how you can use it.
And have a great weekend.
